I have reproduced the problem with the phantom entries. It will be resolved in version 5.9.12.2, which will be out in a few hours.

I also implemented Akismet spam checking in this new version. Can be activated with a checkbox in the User Submission tab.

Glad you enjoy my plugins and book. Please also consider donating to support this plugin’s development.

Thanks! The Akismet addition seems to have corrected (to this point) the numerous spam submissions that were by-passing the simple (non-image) captcha, but we’re still getting some “1” phantoms (about 1 per day or so, it seems).

I don’t consider it a major problem at all, but figured you’d like to know.

Glad to hear that the new Akismet function is working. As a heads-up, I will likey more the option to use Akismet from the Library Settings to the General Settings so you only need to set once for all Libraries.

I will keep looking into the phantom issues.

Just thought I’d note two related things, by the way:

    1) Still getting the phantom links – one at a time, seems to come back as soon as I delete it.

    2) One problem with moving Akismet to General Settings is that it prevents form submission even if the affected fields are not marked required, since, for example, a blank email field doesn’t come up as a “good” email.

I have just pushed an update that only sends fields that are non-empty over to Akismet. That way it should not be seen as spam.

Are you still getting phantom links on occasion?

Heard back from the person now running the site with the User Submission form, and he reports no recent phantom links.
