Permissions as in Forums

I am not asking about forum software permissions but having the same type of permissions to separate subscribers from the public with my Blog. (Or anything that would work. I am not stuck on permissions its just all I can use to describe what I am attempting)

Reason being is that I am laying out a full site with which my WordPress Blog is merely a subscription portal for the rest of the website in this instance. This is my third wordpress blog and I am getting a lot of questions about how to start blogging. I am absolutely positive that I am not the first to try doing this but I thought I would give it a go. Word Press just seems a great fit for this with all the plugins and good add ons.

Also, perhaps it is the same question couched differently, is there a way to set up a PayPal redirect for a subscriber to get to the subscriber, not public, portion of the site after payment confirmation. I did some looking at the plug-ins but missed or did not see a way to set up this type of redirect. I also looked at PayPal but didn’t see a method to do this there.
