• Since a few versions ago Wordfence (or WAF) changes file permissions.
Plugins updated via WordPress, including Wordfence itself, updated folders end up having 777 (in stead of 755) and some updated files 666 (in stead of 644).
The next day updating fails, resulting in all kinds of error messsages about insufficient disk space.

My hosting provider keeps advising to remove Wordfence.
Is there a way to prevent these permission changes in Wordfence or WAF settings or htaccess?

    Hello,

Wordfence won’t change directories to 777 permissions or files to 666 permissions. Something or someone else is responsible for changing those permissions, which present a significant security risk.

Ask your hosting provider to help you investigate the root cause of the change in permissions and ask that steps be taken to restore the permissions in your account.

    Hello @wfphil
Thank you for your response, however when I was trying to activate WAF, an error message appeared like this :
“We were unable to write to ~/wp-content/wflogs/ which the WAF uses for storage. Please update permissions on the parent directory so the web server can write to it”

I have set the folder permission into 0777
What should I do next to fix the issue ?

    thank you,

    Hello,

@iwantaufani It would be better if you could start a new topic to address your own issue please otherwise the topic may become very confusing for everyone involved. Many thanks.
