• I have a problem when I try to upload media into WordPress.
Once I upload a file it gives me an error:

”“image-name.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
Unable to create directory /var/www/vhosts/example-domainname.com/httpdocs/wordpress/wp-content/uploads. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

I tried changing the rights of my wp-content folder and it’s subfolders in my FTP into 766, 777 or 767 but that doesn’t help anything.

I changed them back to 755 but I still cant upload any media!

What can I do to fix this problem?

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

If you continue to have problems, check with your hosts that you do not have a folder ownership issue.
