Help. I just set up my new server (HostGator) and now having trouble uploading some of my WP backup files with the FTP. Request denied for WP-admin, WP-content, and WP-includes folders. The other folders in the public html transferred.

  • sounds more like your host has a problem

Set permission to 755 for those folders using Filezilla.

Set permission to 755 for those folders using Filezilla

how can he set the permissions if they won’t upload?

You set the folder permission to 755 and upload. If the folder does not exist, just create them using ftp.

you CAN NOT set folder permissions before uploading

    Sure you can.

    1. Create folder.
    2. Set permission.

    What’s so hard about that?

he is trying to upload wordpress folders from his local computer – they won’t upload
I know you can create folders on the server and chmod them easy
that does not help this guy
they are not already on his server to chmod differently

Let’s pretend for a moment some magical fairy has already created those folders in his server and set them to no permission. If he tries to upload those folders, it will say no permission.

OP does not give much info so you are guessing a host problem and I’m guessing something else. We could both be wrong. I’m offering an alternative and trying to help. If you want to get in a [edited] contest, you can try and negate my reply anyway you like. It is entirely possible that it is a permission problem or something else altogether. Without the OP providing more info, it’s anybody’s guess.

And if he can create the folders manually, set permissions, and upload the files, then he is golden.

agreed – but I would like to find out why the server will not allow the upload so as to not go through this every time

this is not a ******* contest – I just think it’s better to find root problem rather than apply a band aid

I agree it’s best to know the root answer but the OP has not provided enough info. I’ve had ftp programs tell me no permission in the middle of a transfer because of a bad internet connection that timed out the connection. I’ve also had web host cut off my ftp transfer when I mistakenly set the concurrent file transfers to 30. They see it as an attack and disconnect.

So at this point, all anybody can do is make some guesses and let the OP try them out.

Thank you, (samboll & patyuen), for your helpful suggestions. After trying these ideas and some of my own, I decided it was not a WP issue but went back to the host — found out it was a troubleshooting setup problem with them.
