permission changing and multiple emails from database

I have several sites which i use Ithemes Security free version. It sets up ok and allows for all the settings to be applied.
I noticed that I am getting multiple emails daily of database backups from each site, basically every couple of minutes and when i go and try to alter the settings i get the following:

The directory supplied in Path to Log Files cannot be used as a valid directory. The directory /home3/XXXXXX/public_html/wp-content/uploads/ithemes-security/logs could not be created due to an unknown error. This could be due to a permissions issue.

I use this plug in in conjunction with wordfence and haven’t had this problem show up before.
If I inactivate the plug in and re enable it it seems to work for a bit and then starts this again.
