    Hi,

    I’m having an issue with the plugin and subscriptions for previous subscribers.

    We have an account we had to permanently remove users from in Mailchimp for GDPR. Now any account that was removed can no longer subscribe through the widget from this plugin. They can subscribe through a the mailchimp embed code, but not through this plugins widget.

    Any idea how to overcome this? Thanks in advance.

    It’s a limitation that is set by Mailchimp.com that a user that has been deleted or unsubscribed can’t re-subscribe via the API (and our plugin uses their API). This limitation can’t be circumvented as it’s build into the API by Mailchimp.

    Ah ok, thanks for the heads up.

    That is crazy that Mailchimp have this limitation with the API. Surely it’s some form of data breach, as even after a user removes themselves, mailchimp must still must be retaining their email at least to know that they were previously subscribed.

    I’m assuming they’re keeping a hashed version of the email, so that wouldn’t breach any privacy law and in fact is meant to protect people that unsubscribe from being re-subscribed again and again.
