• Ok I’m sort of new to wordpress so I am not sure if this is an easy problem to resolve. I installed wordpress initially in a directory called wordpress. I now see that all the post have the word wordpress as part of the URL.
I would like to change the word “wordpress” for “innovations” . Here is what I have tried but I have not been able to achieve what I want.
First in the admin setting general tab I changed the wordpress address URL to from https://mitpress-journals.mit.edu/worpress to https://mitpress-journals.mit.edu/innovations. This did not work.
I also tried modifying permanent links to by putting what I wanted for a custom structure but this only appends to the default permanent link thus breaking existing post.
I guess my question is short of reinstalling and creating everything from scratch is there a way to modify the default permanent link https://mitpress-journals.mit.edu/wordpress/?p=123 to look like https://mitpress-journals.mit.edu/innovations/?p=123 so all new post contain innovations not wordpress?
Also is there a way change the old post ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • ok – here is what to do
change both url’s in the dash board to
    https://mitpress-journals.mit.edu/innovations
    save
    do not view blog yet
now with ftp client or host’s file manager, change wordpress folder name to “innovations”.
clear browser cache and visit new url
    https://mitpress-journals.mit.edu/innovations

now got to dashboard and re-save permalinks

    Thank You!!!
    Thank You!!
It worked All I did was change both URL in the dashboard. I already had an alias for innovations to wordpress in apache. I did not even have to re-save the links?
The default permanent link now contains innovations and the old link reflect the change?
