• I’m using Apache without mod_rewrite (my hosting entity doesn’t enable it due to security concerns) but can’t make the /index.php/ prefix to work. I get a ‘No input file specified’ error. If I don’t use “pretty” permalinks, things work fine. I tried adding a php.ini with two cgi commands (a workaround mentioned in another thread) to no avail. Does anyone have a clue? Thanks in advance.

  • A clue? No. A suggestion? Yes: Look for a better host. Apache mod_rewrite is considered a basic offering with most providers, and unless this is a free service you’re on, disabling it due to security concerns is a…lame excuse, at best.

Thanks but that doesn’t help me right now. The hosting entity is Network Solutions — I was happy with them until now. If I follow some threads correctly, you (Kafkaesqui) had a similar problem. I can see that the permalinks are being substituted correctly (e.g. /brachiza.fambracho.org/index.php/2005/07/24/hello-world/) but it seems that the extra characters are not being parsed or maybe even given to the right script! I tried “/index.php?p=%post_id%” and of course it worked, but “/index.php/%post_id%” did not. Do I have to add some parsing code somewhere? Thanks again!
