Permalinks stopped working all of a sudden

    Hi

    I have been using wordpress for about a month now and everything was fine. I was using the date style permalink.

    Today I was reading my blog, and was able to click on any link to other pages, archives, categories and so on and it worked fine. Then all of a sudden, I went to click on another link, and it came back saying “404 page not found”.

    I tested that for every single internal link on ym blog and they all disappeared. I changed the permalink option back to the default /?p=…. and everything works. I changed it back to the date style, and they don’t work.
    The .htaccess file is there also and has not been touched.

    How could that have just happened on its own, without me changing a single setting at all. Fine one second, gone the next?!

  • That’s rather disturbing!

    I’d suggest starting with asking your host if they made any upgrades or server configuration changes today.

    ok thanks.. will do.. this is bothering the heck out of me.

    what happens with any trackback links and stuff that I have with other blogs? they will all come back to page not found as well.. this is terrible lol

    Yah…. lot of that going around all of a sudden. Some serious mod_security ruleset changes/”upgrades”. If that’s what it is, your host won’t tell you what changes to mod_sec they did, but they NEED to at least admit they did that.

    My very very long time host did this to me a couple months back, and I’ve finally had to move. I didn’t like it, but that’s life due to hackers/crackers etc. You do NOT want to know what I wish on them….

    well that sucks. I’ve sent off an email to support with my host.

    I still can’t believe this just happened out of no where. Most of hte time its something I do that messes things up, this time I know I haven’t done a single thing.

    Im already looking for new hosting, since I don’t expect this host to be very helpful.

    Try https://networkredux.com/…. so far I’m very pleased with them.

    As to “happened out of nowhere”…. yes, I know exactly what you mean. I’d been with my previous host for five years. They changed the rules between one breath and the next, and it took me 2 days to get them to admit it. I’d been fighting a losing battle with them for the last 2 months….

    well.. oddly enough.. they are working now

    when it wasnt working, none of my tags, or anything worked. i was ready to explode lol
