I’ve tried to change the permalink structure of billyben.com and the permalinks aren’t working. I cannot be totally sure that they WERE working before hand as I am just setting up the blog now and have not tested everything, I’ve just been trying to get things the way I like them.

I am using GoDaddy hosting for the first time and I think it may have something to do with mod-rewrite. Previously I have always used cPanel and have never had this problem.

I would appreciate any support anyone can give me on this subject

  • Godaddy installs I’ve done have no problems displaying permalinks. How are you changing them? In admin? If so, .htaccess file must be chmod 666.
Are you sure you have an .htaccess? Look in your WP root to make sure.
Give this a read to bone up on permalinks:

Just to add here – whenever I have this problem with godaddy installs, it’s typically just a matter of time for the server to catch up. I remember seeing a post here a while ago on this, and that was the very case. I was trying to find that thread, because I’m currently experiencing the same thing – and I remembered that it happened before to someone else.

Yesterday I was trying to FTP in… I got in, uploaded, did the install – everything was fine for about 10 mins. before I got a 404 page. I waited until this morning to check again, and all is well. Last time this happened, it only happened in the very beginning, and never again afterward… so just try to be a little patient. ??
