permalinks increment with unwanted numbers

  • i do not know how exactly to state this, so i will try a few different ways of saying it…

    how do i reset my permalinks so that they no longer have numbers after them. such as home-2 or news-2 ???

    where is the secret trigger that resets them to 0 ???

    where are the ‘used up’ permalinks without numbers hiding? can i delete them?

    Old post/page slugs still remain “in use” even if they’ve been moved to the trash. Try emptying the trash in the Posts and Pages section of your admin panel.
