permalinks, htaccess and rewrite rules

  • Hi guys,
    I would like to change my permalink structure from /index.php/archives/%postname%/ to simply /%category%/%postname%/

    What do I need to put in .htaccess to make the old permalinks redirect correctly?

    Your new permalink structure contains more information than your old one (category). So there is no way to do it from the .htaccess entirely.

    how about if I went to just having /%postname%/ ?

    anyone have any ideas how to accomplish this? – the change from /index.php/archives/%postname%/ to something along the lines of /%postname%/ ?
