Our web site is currently using an IP address for the Permalinks. We now have a domain name, so I will be changing the Permalinks over to use the domain name.

During development, some of the links on the site were (manually) encoded to locations “outside” the WordPress area (but on the same server). Those links also used the same IP address.

If I change the Permalinks, will WordPress also change those embedded links? In other words, is it doing a global substitution and replacing the IP address with the new Permalink domain name… or is it only changing certain dynamic pointers in the templates when I change the Permalinks and we will need to manually update any links that were manually created with an IP address?

    Thanks,

You’ll need to first change the two URLs at Settings -> General in your blog’s Dashboard, then switch over to the new domain, and finally re-save the Permalinks at Settings -> Permalinks. WordPress will take care of everything else. ??

    James:

So basicallly, aside from the external DNS/Domain issues, I just enter the new domain in place of the old IP in those two areas, and I’m done?
