• On my default permalink default, rather than /download, or about us, or posts, the link reads /page_id=13 or whatever the number is. When I insert /%postname%-%post_id%.html in the custom config field, the names of the pages show up but the pages themselves do not. I get the cannot find error. I appreciate all the assistance I can get. This is my first blog.

  • Why not try entering this:

    /%category%/%postname%/

This will display page like this:

    yourdomain.com/pagename

    And posts like this:

    yourdomain.com/categoryname/postname

Ok, I tried that, the names of the pages showed up but the pages did not. I have not set any categories. I am suspecting that would influence it?

You need posts and have them in categories for any category permalinked posts to show up.

my home page is static. the posts are on the posts page. Will this influence it? I even tried just /%postname%, and the pages still could not be found.

Sure your changes are getting written to .htaccess? Be sure WP says the changes were saved. If WP says your htaccess needs to be writable, that’s the problem.

GoDaddy did not give me .htaccess file. My friend who has created hundreds of blogs, uploaded it for me. She has not found what the problem is either. I tried /%postname% again and saved, wp says saved. I set it to default again and back and forth, but no change.

What haven’t we thought of yet? I am open.

would the fact that my home page is static have any bearing on this?
