    HI,

As I’ve seen in the “Advanced Guide to Product-Based SEO for Online Stores” (https://woocommerce.com/posts/product-based-seo-guide-ecommerce/), it’s recommended to improve the structure of the eshop with creating URLs that match the hierarchy of categories and products.

And it recommends a product URL like this: example.com/category-one/product-two , without adding extrawords.

I’m trying to set this url structure in the Permalinks options, but I can’t configure it succesfully. Can anyone help me with Permalinks settig?

    Thanks!!

    Hi there,

By default WooCommerce will use a unique slug before the category slug itself eg: /product-category/category-one as per https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/permalinks/

This is technically possible to remove that slug with custom code but we don’t recommend doing so since it has some downsides.

SEOpress does it for posts, maybe you contact the authors to have it implemented for products categories as well or choose to use “permalink manager pro”

    Thanks for your answer, Remi

But we have seen that in this “official” tutorial of woocommerce (https://woocommerce.com/posts/product-based-seo-guide-ecommerce/) the recommendation is to use URLs like: example.com/category-one/product-two. I understand that it means to remove the unique slugs that you say.

It’a little bit confusing, because we ara receiving contradictory information from woocommerce support and wordpress support.

Is it possible to have detailled information of the downsides that you mention?

And in case that we finally decide to remove the slugs, is there any way to do it without using a plugin? For example modifying functions.php file or similar?

    Thanks again for your time!

The link you mentioned isn’t the official guide, the right document is the one I mentioned in my previous message. The post you’re referring to is a list of advice provided for SEO, but technically, with WordPress and WooCommerce you’re facing a technical issue and reaching a restriction.

If you check the way WordPress works, it’s actually the same thing. The main taxnonomy slug / the current taxonomy slug.
