• I want to add a multisite structure to my existing website and started reading some documentation today.

On permalinks it says it will add ‘/blog/’ to posts on the original blogsite. I’m wondering if this addition will only occur on posts going forward once the multisite is up and running, or if it actually places this into every other existing permalink on the blog.

Obviously, changing all the permalinks on the existing blog would ruin any internal links and references and be harmful if you have a blog that’s been running for over a year.

I just want to be sure any implementation doesn’t effect EXISTING blog entries and web structures just new ones?

Only if you pick SubFolders (i.e. domain.com/subsite)

It will impact all your links, past and present, and yeah, it’ll break your links. But you know, you can use .htaccess to correct that fairly easily.

Thanks for the response – just to confirm as I was going to use subdomains rather than subfolders – if i use subdomains there’s no impact to permalinks?
