  • Being on an IIS server actually hurts ?? but if you are on IIS7 is should be relatively simple and you might get it running on IIS6. See the codex to start. If your server can handle it, switching permalinks isn’t tricky at all. Just go to wp-admin->Settings->Permalinks and set the structure you want. Check the codex page linked to for the syntax and also note that starting permalinks with a category is “not recommended for performance reasons”. And, since you are using the default links you don’t have to worry about breaking any links you might have from other sites– a friend’s blog, google, whatever. The default links always work, no matter what the permalink setting.

i added this /%postname%/ in the custom field of permalinks and all my blogs links didnt work, so it looks like the server cant handle them, reading the codex it looks like i need this to make them work :
Microsoft IIS 7+ web server with the URL Rewrite 1.1+ module and PHP 5 running as FastCGI, so i guess this url rewrite module is missing from the server ?

so i guess this url rewrite module is missing from the server ?

Maybe, contact your webhost and ask.
