• I was given advice today from another blogger who had this to tell me:

“Change the format of your permalinks in WordPress. Google doesn’t like to index pages with question marks in the address. Also, it makes the address easier to remember.”

I guess I should ask Google this question but unfortunately they don’t respond to me. So my second place is here and was just wondering if anybody had heard this before. I know you can change the format but wanted to see what others thought about this.

    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

  • I am working on my first wordpress but have been involved in websites for a couple of years and have read much about search engines.

Remember Google is much different than Yahoo, Msn etc.

Google does take keywords in the URL into consideration but does take much more into consideration also, when judging a website.
The other search engines on the other hand consider it much more.

So, I would say don’t bother to do it for google because there is much more that go into the Google algorithm BUT, it definately will help in the rest of the engines.

All traffic helps, I did it for my wp…

OK my dilemma then is this, I already have posted several blogs on my site and I went to switch it over in the permalink tab in the WP control panel. The links no longer work for existing posts. How would I convert those?

Old URLs will work also,if you switch it

fyi, I like the date based permalinks they’re really close to what the w3c reccomends here –
