Permalinking Issue

Hi,

On my site I use categories to sort content, and use separate pages/widgets to display most of them. For example,

I have a custom page /mods/, which pulls posts from the category and subcategories of ‘Mod Database’ (slug being /mod-database/subcategorynamehere).

While I use the custom page /mods/ to display most things, I allow users to view the individual category pages as a sort of filter so they can find more specific content. The issue here is that when they view these subcategories, the permalink is (/mod-database/subcategorynamehere), while I like it to display as (/mods/subcategorynamehere).

I know it’s not possible to use the same slug for a custom page and for a category page, so I’m not not sure how to go about fixing this issue.

I’m very new to WP and even programming in general, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
