    At the moment the default permalink structure is /glossary/

    In the Permalinks menu, I see the option for “WPPedia base” and I changed that to something else, to begin with, I just used glossary-test. I was assuming that this would change the URL structure to /glossary-test/ but it did not do anything.

    I also see the option “use initial character in URL” which is greyed out and says “PRO”. But the initial character IS used in the URL. Creating an initial glossary entry titled “Test” has the URL /glossary/t/test.

    Am I misunderstanding the purpose of this setting?

    Additionally, I get a warning “Attention! Your permalink base does not match the slug of your glossary frontpage glossary”

    I can’t seem to get that to go away.

    And my front page doesn’t show anything. I set the front page in the plugin settings, assuming that this should automatically display some sort of archive or index on that specified page, but nothing happens.

    thanks for posting this topic. So I will try to make things clearer at this moment.
    It seems like we made a mistake in a previous update which makes WPPedia fail on changing the permalink base. I will update by the end of the day. I will also make the Attention warning dismissable there.

    Also the use initial character in URL is active by default. This can be adjusted with the PRO version we will launch soon.

    For the frontpage. Yes you are right, the frontpage setting currently displays the content provided by the page itself. If you want to use an archive there just leave this setting blank – We have to adjust this a little bit.

    Please excuse the misunderstandings. WPPedia is still in a very early stage but we will try to fix any bugs in the next few weeks.

    I just published a new version of WPPedia which fixed the issues mentioned above.

    Now I want to clarify what is the real purpose of the WPPedia frontpage option:
    Using this option removes the original Glossary archive and overrides it with a custom defined page. This page is now used as the frontpage for example in the WPPedia navigation home link.

    You can then use shortcodes like

    • [wppedia_navigation] – to display the glossary navigation
    • [wppedia_searchform] – to display the glossary searchform

    Other Shortcodes, Widgets, or Blocks will follow soon.

    The intention of this frontpage is to let the user define page content that may display glossary categories, date specific articles or just a custom entry text. (keep in mind these features are not in core yet but are planned for upcomming releases)

    I can confirm permalink issue is now fixed with the new update. Excellent!

    Regarding the glossary home page, I see what you are saying now. I didn’t realise it created the glossary home page itself automatically with the /glossary/ URL.

    May I make a suggestion about the availability of the option regarding the inclusion of the letter in the permalink structure…

    My first thought with that was “what an SEO/redirection nightmare”. If you were to make a glossary with hundreds of terms, and then later change that option, you would have to implement a bulk redirect for every entry. This means that if someone decided to upgrade to pro at a later date to get that feature, they will have to deal with this.

    If you offered that feature in the free version and put the option clearly in the settings page, not hidden on the permalink page, then people can make that decision at the beginning of using the plugin, and then stick with that decision. I think overall, this would create a better experience with the plugin.

    Also, if the default option if for “use initial character in URL” to be ON, I think you need to change the visuals of it. To me, that switch looks to be in the OFF position, so it looks confusing.

    So you should either change the switch to the right-hand ON position, or re-word the label to say “remove initial character in URL” which would actually make more sense as a feature.

    Hey @whistlerdan,

    thanks for your suggestions. You are right, the SEO part coming from this option could be hard to handle if someone switches to PRO later on. Especially because PRO is not available yet.

    I will discuss this anytime soon. We could do something like automatic redirects from the plugin site. But I will let you know.

    Also I will do something about the visuals. Currently it might be some confusing as you say.

    For your interest. I have just discussed the use initial character in URL permalink option with the team and we will integrate this feature in the free version of WPPedia.

    It will be pushed in an update very soon.

    Hi Team,
    At least you should provide an example on placeholder so that user like me can easily config the plugin. lots of switches without any placeholder ot example. means hit & trial method. personally i check easy switch and refeshing the page for impact…

    At the time of writting this line. i am not able to setup the plugin after a lot of struggle.
