Permalink settings are not available in WordPress 3.0

    Hello dear users,

    Because of a disaster with my host I just made a clean install of WordPress 3.0 and in one way or the other I managed to lay my hands on the database of my old blog but I’m not able to import the content.

    Now an idea came up: if I go to my rss-reader and copy and paste all my 340+ articles manually (a lot of work still) my content would be back.
    Therefor I need to setup the permalinks like they were on the old blog.
    But after visiting the permalink page in WP 3.0 I discover that this page is blank.

    I tried to find a solution on the forum and it’s possible that I missed something but I’m already 36 hours busy figuring things out.

    Any help is very appreciated.

    Gosh, I’m tired.

    I forgot to mention that I don’t have any plug-ins installed yet.

    Hi Mario,
    When the page seems blank, it means either you have not copied that properly or it is corrupted. If you can do a reinstall of the core, it should help. If you have done reinstall already, and still find problems with permalink, you can perhaps post a screenshot or else here.

    I did a clean install and now the only thing that’s on the permalink page is this:

    “By default WordPress uses web URLs which have question marks and lots of numbers in them, however WordPress offers you the ability to create a custom URL structure for your permalinks and archives. This can improve the aesthetics, usability, and forward-compatibility of your links. A number of tags are available, and here are some examples to get you started.”

    Nothing further. No options.

    It’s WP 2.9.2 at this time.

    I just see on another domain I have that everything is just working fine.

    So it’s most likely the configuration of my hosting account that crashed recently. As my provider denies any further communication about that I think this is the right moment to move it to another provider.

    It could also be a sign of misconfigured PHP. Considering how you have been treated by this host in the past, I strongly recommend moving. They obviously don’t know how to provide customer service.

    Hi MacManX,

    It seems that they find customers the most annoying part of the business. Today I move my new domain to A Small Orange and my problem domain will stop to exist.
    Still, it is very hard to loose work of 2,5 years.

    You may still be able to import your old database, unless your old host completely hosed it. If that’s the case, then I recommend that your inaugural blog post be a very scathing review of their “services.”

    Since I posted my good bye video on my blog the staff members and customer care managers are sending me e-mails.
    In fact it was one arrogant staff member that screwed things up because he seemingly wasn’t very motivated to work on sunday. I would say look for another job then.
