    Hello,

I’m beginner and new member here. I am using Twenty Twelve template. I accidentally deleted the Home from my menu and have tried to restore it following some threads of other people in these forums. I have created a new menu, gone to the Links and changed URL to just / and typed Home for Link Text, and saved to Menu. Then I went to Settings > Reading to define my static front page, which is supposed to be my homepage. But I realised I need to first create a new page titled Home to select it as static front page.

However, when I typed Home as the title for the new page, the permalink given is https://websitename.com/home-2/
I tried to edit the permalink to just Home (without the “-2”) but wordpress would not allow me. I figure the /home permalink already exists BUT I had deleted my original homepage..

    Question
How do I either properly restore my deleted home that permalink /home points to?
    OR
How now to create the new homepage that I can name the permalink as just /home?

Looking forward to all your kind guidance.

    Thank you.

  • if you have removed it from your ‘menu’,
    then go to dashboard->appearence->menu,
you should find a ‘Home’ option on the left.. add that to the menu on right and save.

    Dear shadez,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

I had totally lost the original homepage when I accidentally deleted it. It was no longer in my dashboard–>appearance–>menu. That was when I looked up threads in these forum and followed the steps I had listed in my original post. And I’m stuck with these questions:
How do I either properly restore my deleted home that permalink /home points to?
    OR
How now to create the new homepage that I can name the permalink as just /home?

    Any suggestions, please?

what happens when you visit URL: yoursite.com/home ?

technically, every post is stored in wp_posts table in DB with the details such as slug, post_name, etc as columns. so if you have removed it from your database then you will be able to create a new page called site.com/home, but if its already present then you cant.

in your case, the page is still there.. you have just removed it from the ‘menu’.

maybe its named different. permalink/slug maybe different from the name of the page.
goto dashboard->pages->allpages and see if its there.

or, if site.com/home is working, then you can add a ‘Link’ into your menu as well.

    Dear shadez,

I fiddled around and realised settings–>reading–>
and specifying my choice page as static the static front page resolved my problems! Previously I had specified another page as the front page. I guess that is why I can never specify another page’s permalink to /home. My problem is solved.

I’m beginner and do not understand about slug & DB column etc.. but I really appreciate your pointers.

    Thank you very much!
