    Hello there,

I have changed the permalink structure of a small news site a few weeks back and I had to use an old outdated plugin called Postname Permalink Auto Redirect, as I couldn’t make it work with anything else. It does the job but not for everything and creates internal errors.

I would love to redo it and make it work this time with the Redirection plugin and regex. It was my 1st choice but a big failure. That’s why I switched to something else.

Basically, I have changed the structure from /%postname%/ to /%category%/%postname%/ . I went to site > permalink migration and added /%postname%/ to redirect everything automatically to the new structure but it didn’t work.

I tried to create a regex rule, but it seems that I can’t find the right command to identify the main category of a post automatically. Do you have by any chance a way to create the proper rule or any other solution?

Thank you in advance for your time!

The permalink migration feature is in beta and does not cover every combination of permalink. This is one it does not currently cover.

It is not possible to use a regular expression to generate information that doesn’t exist in a URL.

At the moment the only solution is to create a redirect for each post.

    Hi John,

    Thank you for your answer.

I understand better now why I was having such a hard time!

I will check regularly the updates regarding the permalink migration feature then.

    Best,
