    Hey,

My rank on search engines was always number 1. All of a sudden I get a drastic drop in clicks from Google/Bing etc. When I search pages from my website, it is no longer being displayed.

I’ve done extensive research trying to get to the bottom of the problem and noticed others having the same issue, claiming it was an issue from Yoast.

I keep getting a notice stating:

“Because of a change in your permalink structure, some of your SEO data needs to be reprocessed.

We estimate this could take a long time, due to the size of your site. As an alternative to waiting, you could:

Wait for a week or so, until Yoast SEO automatically processes most of your content in the background.

Run the indexation process on your server using WP CLI.

    Start SEO data optimization”

I haven’t done anything to the permalink structure though. I feel like this change may be the culprit to why my website is not being shown during searches. December 4th, during peak ad revenue times I noticed the drop. It’s extremely frustrating to miss December revenue. Please help. Thanks.

    Hello @hipstrumentals

I understand that you’re being prompted to re-run the SEO data optimization due to a change in your permalink structure. We do not think this is related to a drop in ranking. You mentioned that when you search pages from your website, they’re no longer displayed. So I performed a site search, and there were thousands of results. See screenshot.

Since v15.1, the Yoast SEO plugin detects changes to the home URL or permalink structure. You may not do this yourself, but plugin updates (not necessarily ours) could make such changes that you’re not aware of. Other changes could be switching from HTTP to HTTPS, pushing data from staging to live site, installing a new plugin, adding a new taxonomy or custom post type, a new theme feature, or another plugin modifying or interacting with the site’s URLs/permalinks; basically, actions that create new data that require optimization.

If you have not run the SEO data optimization in the WordPress > SEO > Tools page on your site’s dashboard, can you please do so and let us know how it goes?
