• I am having an issue with Files in media. I can upload files and they go to their perspective folders. But when I add them to Post or Pages they do not load. If I add a picture from media into a post the image will not load. When I go back into media the file shows the broken link pace holder. I can click on the file in media and it shows up and I can edit it etc., but I still get the same issue when I try to add it to a post. Other files such as PDF files do basically the same thing. I can copy the url for the file and put it in a post or make a link with it and it gives a error 500 Internal Server error. If I move the files to an outside directory they will work. I have tried several configurations with permissions (such as giving everyone admin/ full control privileges) and have given the same privileges to the Temp folder used in the PHP.INI file for php to temporary store files when adding them to Media. I’m using WP 4.0 with IIS 7 on a windows 2008 std. server for a corporate intranet. Anyone have any ideas. I’ve tried several attempts at manually editing the permalinks for each file and still get repeated fails. everything else on the website functions as intended. I have removed all plugins and changed themes with the same result. Should I scrap this site and try to rebuild it again?

  • Can you look in the IIS logs to get more details about the 500 error?

OK.. I think I figured it out.

The effective permissions on both the upload folder and the \temp folder must have the IIS_IUSRS write/modify permission. Even though I had Everyone with the same effective permissions it didn’t want to work. After adding the IIS_IUSRS write/modify permission to the above folders worked as advertised. This is an issue with IIS 7 and not a word press issue… Thanks for the help.
