Permalink in post editor use id instead of title

  • Hi, I noticed recently that permalinks in the post editor set themselves to post-id after some time when title field is blank.
    Normally permalink refreshed to what I wrote in the title but now that’s not working anymore.
    So sometimes I forget to update permalinks by myself and publish obtaining links like: https://www.domain.com/132445-2.
    Can it be an Yoast SEO issue? Any ideas?

  • I’m assuming from your question that the Permalinks setting is still set to use the database ID number. Did you know there is a setting you can set that will apply to all of your posts?

    Please check the permalink structure in WordPress from the Settings > Permalinks menu on the dashboard. In earlier versions of WordPress the default was set to use the database ID number of each post as the permalink.

    NOTE: While the act of making the change is as simple as selecting a new permalink type and clicking save, the consequences of that action require a little more discussion.

    Thank you Kathy but I noticed the problem just because I always had permalinks set to title.
    I didn’t change anything. But some days ago the post editor started acting this way. It gives an id permalink to post even if I write title: the url remains id after clicking publish. So I have to remember each time to copy the title and paste it to permalink field.
    In the past editor updated permalink to title automatically.
    Any ideas?

    Let’s try some basic troubleshooting steps:

    1. Disable all plugins
    2. Change Permalinks to DEFAULT (/?=123)
    3. Change permalinks BACK to the desired format (Post Name)
    4. Activate plugins you want one-by-one
    5. Evaluate permalink issue after activating each plugin
