    Up!

I have found a lot of methods and plugins for using the structure
    https://www.mysite.com/categoryname/

But i want to mantain the base “cat” and have a 404 error when typing the url without base cat.

i reply to my topic hoping someone can answer me.
    Thanks!

Not sure about forcing a 404 on a URL without category base, but if you look in the source code, the canonical URL for https://www.mysite.com/categoryname/ should be https://www.mysite.com/cat/categoryname/. So should be OK for SEO?

A late reply, not sure how much use it is, but I came across your post when I was searching for how to keep category base (blog, in our case) for single post URLs. In the end we went with the custom permalink: /blog/%category%/%postname%/

Thank you Karl19 for your answer.

I’d like a 404 in order to avoid duplicate content. Don’t know why, but Google spiders my category pages both with and without the CAT slug.
