    Hi

    I wanted to understand why the performance scores on hummingbird show as O across the board. Things like Time to Interactive for your website is 33.4 s, FCP time for your website is 6.9 s, Speed Index for your website is 29.1 s.

    We run our own PLESK server which is fully optimised APACHE with NGINX running latest PHP 7.3.7 served by FPM application, the site JS/HTML/CSS is all optimised and we run on CloudFlare.

    This all shows on platforms like GTMetrix, VARVY etc where the test results are constant A+.

    Why is HummingBird showing the complete opposite?

    Thanks

  • Hi @saltmediadevon,

    Hummingbird uses Google PageSpeed Insights API to test your website. The reason why you are seeing this difference, is because GTMetrix utilise an outdated PageSpeed API, which calculates the scores differently. The new API is focused on providing a score based on real usage and it compares all the results with a predefined average, while the old one doesn’t take into account a lot of factors and is not that informative.

    You can do a scan here and check for the accurate data: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
    The report should match the one from Hummingbird.

    Hi Anton

    Yes we use Google PageSpeed Insights to pinpoint issues, we average between 35%-60% Performance (depending on time of day it seems) 97% Accessibility, 93% Best Practices 100% SEO so Hummingbird scores wildley different, i mean hummingbirds 0% to even our lowest Performance score on Insights is crazy .

    @saltmediadevon,

    I’m not sure where you are seeing these numbers… I just tried doing a direct Google PageSpeed Insights scan and got a 1 score for both desktop and mobile.

    Could you please show a screenshot of a higher score?

    Best regards,
    Anton

    Hi Anton

    Screen shot here

    Google Page Speed

    @saltmediadevon,

    Oh, you’re doing it from the browser console. Lighthouse audits from Chrome and Google PageSpeed Insights will not produce same results. The audit from the browser console takes into account your computer and network performance and generates the report for you specifically, for your computer (if it’s fast, you get a better rating), your location and your network speed (if you are in the same region as your site, the score will be significantly higher). PageSpeed Insights have an adjustment rating for the score, that tries to remove the network speed and computer performance variables. If you want a really detailed explanation on how the Lighthouse engine function and why the scores are different, you should file a bug here: https://github.com/GoogleChrome/lighthouse/issues. Their developers will be able to guide you better on this topic.
    But Hummingbird will only be able to use the PageSpeed Insights API (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/), not your Lighthouse report data

    Best regards,
    Anton

    ahh, i thought that that PageSpeed Insights had been discontinued by Google. Thanks for the heads up. I still find it strange how its at 0% though

    @saltmediadevon,

    Welcome. I think there might be some network lag that you should resolve. The difference does seem quite big. I would strongly recommend contacting the lighthouse devs for some clarification as to why this is happening.

    Best regards,
    Anton
