Performance question

I’ve used wpDiscuz on a small site and like it very much.

I’m wondering how beefy a server I would need to accommodate 100+ concurrent users polling “realtime” comments.

How would I go about testing this kind of load?

Are there any suggestions to optimizing performance? Eg. Using the new comment notification button instead of loading new comments on the fly and recommended polling interval.
