Pending users list empty

Love the plugin and considering buying the pro version but before I do I have to make sure it’ll work for me. I have a custom form creating users, I am adding the pw_user_status as pending to the usermeta table tied to the user id I created. This works fine as users can’t login because they are actually pending but the pending list in the plugin continues to be empty.

Once I add a user via the regular wp registration, it shows up along with all the custom created users – which is odd. But once I approve / deny them, the list will stay empty even if there are pending users.

Doesn’t the plugin just look at the pw_user_status to decide which users to show on the list?

Note: I have the ‘anyone can register’ turned off as not everyone can register – I am using custom forms that feed into the database.
