Pending & Trash Comments Not Visible

  • In the WP dashboard panel for comments, I can see that there is a PENDING comment and a bunch in TRASH. However, when I click to those tabs I cannot view anything (as if there are none).

    We’re using WP v 5.9.3

    You have the filter set to view all comment types?

    If so, the query used for getting comments could have been corrupted by your theme or a plugin. Try deactivating all plugins and switching to Twenty Twenty-one theme. The missing comments should become visible, assuming the empty view hasn’t been cached. If the comments are visible, restore your theme and plugins, one at a time, until they disappear again. The last activated is the culprit.

    It’s not a front-end issue. It’s only in the admin on the back-end. Because WP is not showing any of the pending comments, I cannot approve them.

    The comments list table in admin still makes queries as we’d do for the front end. Thus filter or action hook code from any theme or plugin could conceivably alter such a query. Likely by accident, but it’s conceivable all the same. The best way to narrow down the cause is as I explained.
