Pending Payment Status Emails Not Working?

I was hoping to find out if others were having this same issue. I set the custom email notification to email me when a new order comes through with a ‘pneding payment’ status. This particular site is made to order so doesn’t capture the payment right away just authorizes it. This means that the status set in woocommerce is ‘pending payment’ which by default woocommerce does NOT send a new order notification. However, when i set this custom email in the email settings and test it, no emails come through. The email function DOES work with cancelled orders and such just fine…it’s this pending payment setting! Thoughts? Thank you!
