    I’ve got a donor transaction created over 4 hours ago that still shows as Pending. To test things out I made a test donation an hour or so later and it went through fine. Is there any way to get more details about what might be holding up the Pending transaction? The Pending transaction does not show up in our PayPal account but the test donation I made does, so I haven’t tried enabling the PayPal IPN Verification.

    Is there any way to get details about the Pending status so I can inform the donor as to the source of the status? Or so I can resolve the issue myself?

    HI there,

    This most likely means that the Donor filled out your donation form, then was redirected to PayPal and didn’t finalize their donation over there. Give will automatically move the status of that transaction to “Abandoned” — I believe — after 24 hours.

    That is common with PayPal standard simply because of the redirect to their site.

    Great, thanks so much for the speedy response. Too bad there’s not info that I (or the person in charge of the event) could pass on to the donor regarding the specific reason for it not going through. (He contacted us to ask what the problem was.) I’ll probably look at the form to see if there’s smoother choice than using the pop-up. Just trying to make the process as easy as possible for the folks signing up.

    Totally understand Tom. Generally, I’d recommend getting one of our Premium Gateways to allow for payments directly on your site. That is best practice and helps avoid issues like this.

    Ok, thanks, Matt. I’ll look into it and talk to the client about going Premium but would Premium let me find out why this donor’s payment is stuck in Pending mode?

    Hi Tom,

    I believe it’s stuck in Pending mode because they didn’t complete their donation. If you don’t see it in your PayPal account then that’s definitely the case.

    The PayPal Pro addon requires that your client has a PayPal Pro account, which has it’s own costs. But there’s also Stripe, or Authorize.net as well. Feel free to ask pre-sales questions about premium Addons on our contact form:
