• I uploaded a new PDF in my blog. The URL for the PDF is https://www.mydomain.com/uploads/docs/really-really-really-long-name.pdf. I usually show the entire PDF path in the post (so that users who print the post can get the full PDF URL).

I want to change the URL to something shorter so that it is easier for users to remember. There are MANY URL shortening plug-ins but is there anything I can use while composing my post so that href and output URLs are shortened?

    Any help will be appreciated.

  • When you upload the PDF to your site you can go to the Media Library under the Media section. Then once there hover your mouse over the name of the PDF you are wanting to show the URL for and make sure to make a note of the number after ?attachment_id= in hte status bar of the browser.

Once you have that (say the number was 9) you can direct visitors to the URL https://mydomain.com/?attachment_id=9 and it will take them to a page on your site displaying a link to download the PDF.

This should work as a one time thing, unless you don’t mind doing it everytime but it could be worked into a plugin if it doesn’t already exist.
