GDE has been working flawlessly on two sites I manage for quite a while but suddenly has become very erratic.

PDF files (different ones) on both sites display only periodically. Sometimes refreshing the page will cause them to appear, however often the page needs to be refreshed numerous times and even then sometimes the document will never appear.

The sites are on two completely different hosts, one on a shared hosting account, the other with a different company on a VPS.

I’ve turned caching on and off but no change. This happens in Safari, Firefox and Chrome in OSX as well as IE, FF, and Chrome in Windows. It happens on different networks and in various geographical locations.

I’ve tried deactivating all plugins and reactivating GDE only, but get the same results. I’ve also tried deleting GDE and reinstalling it.

I noticed the same exact problem on another website that uses GDE to display PDFs. So I’m wondering if there’s suddenly an issue with GDE and/or if anyone else is experiencing the same thing?

    Here’s the site/page:

This is the code for one of the sites (same for the other site, but for a different document):

    [gview file=”https://stlukechurch.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/01-Newsletter-15.pdf” height=”1300px” width=”1000px” save=”0″]

As mentioned, everything has been fine up until now.

    TIA!

    Thank you for your message.

Please see the updated notice on the front page of the plugin description:

Hopefully that will explain the recent changes to the underlying document viewer, and lead you to a solution!

    Thanks Dan and understood.

I think the issue was not with GDE itself, but with Google. There seemed to be an issue across the board that was slowing down the loading process. Sometimes it would result in a blank area where the frame should be, other times the animated Google loader icon would just keep “spinning”.

It’s better now but I still see it periodically on several sites using GDE.

Depending on Google looks even more risky going forward.

Thanks again for your hard work!
