• I don’t know when this started, but I just noticed that can’t insert, or replace an already existing pdf (using your image block) anymore. They upload fine, but when inserting them, all I get is the broken image icon. (and nothing shows on the front end.)

One of my client brought it to my attention, they use pdfs all the time and was trying to update and replace an older pdf on a post (these all still work and display), but cannot replace or insert a new one.

I tried another site that uses your plugin, and it’s the same problem.

    Any ideas?

    Is anyone supporting this plugin??

What changed? could it be a php version conflict? something with wordpress updates?

To clarify, the image block used to be able to display a pdf (as an image), now the “broken image” icon is all that displays on the back-end. you can upload, and select a pdf, but it wont display anymore

    Hello @grape ,

The issue is likely because the Image block is meant to display image formats like .jpg or .png, and it can’t handle .pdf files. It shouldn’t have worked in the past, as the img tag is not designed for PDFs. To resolve this, you can use a PDF icon image as a placeholder. Then, in the Image block’s link option, link the image to the PDF file. This way, users can click the image to view or download the PDF.

Let me know if you need further assistance!

Well something has changed in the last couple months..

Hows is it that the old pdf’s work and display just fine (as an image), but any new ones show the broken image, even though they show up in the media library? Interesting.

Yes, I was just trying to save my client the extra step of generating an image (they want the thumb to be of the pdf, not a placeholder)

Nothing related to the image block has changed in Gutentor. Could you please share a link to one of the old PDFs that display correctly? WordPress typically uses a default image as a placeholder for PDFs in the media library.
It’s possible that another plugin is adding the thumbnail on the frontend. Let us know, and we’ll help investigate further. Thank you!
