PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) when trying to install UpdraftPlus

    Hi all,
    I’m trying to install UpdraftPlus and I’m getting error “The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature”. I had the same error when trying to update WordPress too just now and solved this by doing the update via the hosting company’s OneClickInstaller. However I’ve managed to update other (simpler) plugins on the same site. I’m not out of disk space – my control panel says I’ve used 0.05GB out of 10GB (yes it’s a small site!).
    Any ideas on what to try or how to diagnose the problem?

    Hi Miranda,

    Could you try downloading a copy of UpdraftPlus from this site, and upload this copy to your site via the ‘Plugins->Add New->Upload Plugin’ button in WP Admin?

    It is possible that something is interfering with the direct download to the site.

    I’ve done that, and I saw it uploading the file again to WordPress to install it, but then I got “504 Gateway Time-out The server didn’t respond in time.”. I tried again it says “Destination folder already exists. /home/hp3-linc2-nfs2-y/050/660050/user/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/”.
    However when I look at the list of Plugins it’s there!
    I’ve activated it, connected it to my DropBox, and done a backup, and it seems to be working.
    Do you think it’s all OK? Just a bit worried that something might be missing …

    Hi,

    If the backups are running, then it is most likely that everything is in place.

    However, you can manually reinstall the plugin files via FTP to ensure that everything is in place.
    To do this, download a copy of the plugin, unzip it, then upload the contents to the ‘wp-content/plugins’ directory of the site via FTP (replacing the existing updraftplus folder.
