Occasionally this works but most times after someone has selected the number of persons wishing to pay and continued to payment they just get an error message which says
“It looks like something went wrong. We’re sorry, we’re having trouble completing your request at the moment. Please try again shortly.”

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi there,

I just tested several times and always got to PayPal without trouble. I don’t know what else could be the issue unless I can replicate the problem.

Are you certain the error happens specifically on that form, or is it on a different form on your site?

The more info I have to troubleshoot and potentially see the problem live the better.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for your quick response.
Yes the error happens on that form.
Is it possible that PayPal sees me as a spammer having tested it a few times from the same ip?

POssibly. During my own testing I was interrupted by a reCapthcha screen on paypal.com. Once I passed it I still went through fine.

Do you have reports from donors saying it doesn’t work?

    (@lawriem1)

No, I’m just setting it up and want to make sure it works before I let people know it’s live.
I’ve used the plugin a few times before and have had quite a few failures logged in the donations window.

Sorry, can you clarify what you mean by “failures logged in the donations window”? It’s not clear to me what you mean there.

In the plugin under donations the current failed donations are shown as pending. On previous unsuccessful attempts they are shown as abandoned or failed.

Give will show them as Pending for roughly 7 days. If PayPal doesn’t send a signal (called the IPN) that the donation was completed, then Give updates them to be “Abandoned”.

See our FAQ on that here:
    https://givewp.com/documentation/core/payment-gateways/paypal-standard/faq/#pending-status

Let me know if you have any other questions at all. Thanks!

If I try a test donation with my iPad or iPad (Safari browser) the donation goes through but if I try it with either of my two desktop PCs I have problems.
Using the Chrome browser I get the message “It looks like something went wrong. We’re sorry, we’re having trouble completing your request at the moment. Please try again shortly.”
Using Bing I don’t even get to the PayPal page, just a message saying “Error: Nonce verification has failed.”
    Using Firefox it works.

    Hi there,

I tested again and I am getting a different error this time, and I believe it’s related to your caching and/or minification plugin. Please do the following:

    1) Clear your cache with the WP Fastest Cache setting
    2) Disable WP Fastest Cache
    3) Test the form again

If it works as expected, then enable the caching plugin again and all should go as expected.

Let me know how that goes. Thanks!

    Hi Matt
Sorry, that has made no difference.

Hmmmm… it did on my end, I’m now having no trouble with the form at all.

Are you using a Mac with Safari browser?

    Thread Starter lawriem1

    (@lawriem1)

Seems to be working now. I don’t know why.
I tried using a VPN and it was fine. Then when I disconnected the VPN it still worked.

    (@webdevmattcrom)

Ya, strange. It again seems to be caching related in one form or another.

We do have about a dozen users reporting similar issues but with different causes so we’re looking into tightening how we deal with “nonces” a bit to hopefully avoid this in the future.

Thanks for your patience and for your insight. Keep us posted if it crops up again.
