Orders I am receiving which are paid using Paypal are being put on hold with the message

“Validation error: PayPal amounts do not match”.

This is only happening, I think, for orders which qualify for Free Shipping (over £35). Other Paypal orders are going through. Typically they are for one item, and the ones that qualify for free shipping will contain more than one product. (I’m not sure if the issue is the Free Shipping or the number of items in the order, or something else).

I dont have access to our Paypal account, but have asked the business owner to check instructions in this article https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/How-to-use-PayPal-Archive/Turning-off-shipping-calculator/m-p/40656#M29458

“”Override Shipping Methods Per Transaction”. It should be “ON”
    * If not, you need to Edit your settings.
    * Look for “Use the shipping fee in the transaction instead of my calculator’s settings:”

She couldnt find this in her settings and that article is from 2010 so likely the settings are somewhere else now? Could anyone advise where to change this setting now?

Also I want to rule out any other causes. Because some of the orders are going through, could it still be the issue above or something else?

Any help troubleshooting much appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi there,

Typically, the PayPal amounts do not match error is due to having tax and/or shipping turned on in PayPal itself. Essentially what’s happening is that shipping is being charged twice.

The link to the article you provided is the same one we reference when telling folks to disable that, and unfortunately, I’m not as familiar with PayPal and where this setting might be now. Can you try navigating to Profile > Seller Tools > More Selling Tools and check to see if the settings are there?

Also, please make sure the “Number of decimals” is set to 2 in the currency options under WooCommerce > Settings > General as well.

    I hope this helps!
