It has all been working fine for over a year but now it has stopped working.

Users are processing payments for bookings using PayPal and the funds are successfully processed but the IPN is not updating the website – they’re just failing. I’ve checked the IPN is still switched on in PayPal settings and that the URL is correct and there are no issues there.

I’ve got the pro version but I think my year for support and updates has lapsed – but I didn’t think that would be the issue as PayPal should still work I thought.

Does anyone know what my issue might be?

did you updated any of your theme, other plugins or wordpress lately which might cause the issue? also, you can check the ipn http response code in your paypal account.

    Hi Angelo

No I haven’t made any updates to anything.

The error in paypal is a 502 but not sure what that’s telling me

The error code 503 probably means there’s a problem with your web hosting. They may be blocking connections to PayPal – it would be worth checking with your hosting support.

    Sorry, I wrote 503 but meant 502.

I’ve checked with hosting and all is as it should be there and they’re unable to pinpoint the issue. PayPal error says it’s not an issue their end, so it must be something to do with the website but not to do with the hosting. So that brings me back to the plugin – any other thoughts?

If you go to Events > Payment Gateways > PayPal and copy and paste the IPN url into a browser, what message do you see?

    I get this message:

Error: Missing POST variables. Identification is not possible.

that looks correct and means EM is waiting for connection; in your EM paypal settings, did you enable Delete pending bookings after X minutes ?

    (@taml)

No, that setting is switched off

Are you using Varnish or any other caching system?

    (@taml)

    No, nothing like that

Do you have any kind of firewall or security plugin running?

Nope nothing of that sort either…

another thing you can try is to check your php log to see if there’s another error or ask your host since you are getting 502 error ?

I’ve looked through the PHP log and spoken to my hosts but neither shed any light on the errors. This is such a mystery!
