Please help me, I’m out of clues. So I have Paypal Express configured properly, the Sandbox test worked fine. I reentered my live Paypal Express API info and now i’m trying to complete an order as if i am a new subscriber, using my personal Paypal account. I selected a membership level, the next page is the secure payment page and i click on the Check out with Paypal button. The next page is within Paypal asking how would i like to pay, but also a gray box stating, “this card cannot be used for this transaction” (which is a Capital One credit card). I go into Paypal and change that card to a First Premier Bank credit card and i got the same message. I go in again and change that card to my bank debit card. Now i got this message, “This card can’t be used for this type of transaction. You can use a confirmed bank account or your PayPal balance.” And the “Add a Bank account” prompt is there.

I’ve tried 3 times now to make a purchase with Paypal Express with 3 different cards. What am i doing wrong, is there a setting somewhere that i need to switch on? Is it me or this plugin or Paypal? I am officially launching in 2 days and I can’t even do a trial run. I really need this to be as easy as possible for new subscribers to sign up. Thanks in advance!! One Love! ??

… side question here; Stripe does not allow dating sites and upon reading the Paypal community questions on their site, I’m not sure i even want to deal with Paypal! Are these the only payment gateways that can be used with PMP Pro (https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/add-on-category/payment/)? Authorize.net turned me down due to my site being a dating site, and it appears that Woocommerce is not highly favored by you. What’s a girl to do when there aren’t any stable choices to choose from?

… side question #2 here: I contacted Paypal about the payment issues and their response is below. I’m just concerned because I didn’t see or read anything on the PMP website regarding this extra step needed for Paypal to work. ” Before I go along with what they’re requiring, (basically i’d be applying for a high-risk merchant account of sorts, as my site is a dating site) Can someone at PMP please confirm that this is in fact the reason why i’m not able to process Paypal Express payments?

Thank you for contacting PayPal Business Support. My name is Lori and I am here to assist you today. I am sorry you're having difficulties.?Paid Membership Pro requires Reference Transactions. You will need to apply for Reference Transactions.

Reference Transactions are one of our riskiest products as it allows you to change the amount and frequency of the payments being taken. As this carries such a high risk it is not something that we offer all merchants.

In line with this, please reply to this email with the following information so that we can submit an application for Reference Transactions on your behalf.

    Business information:

    1.Business name
    2.Business URL
3.Current/anticipated monthly sales via PayPal only
    4.Number of repeat customers

    Integration information:

    1.Please describe?briefly your business model?
    2.Do?you?your?buyers?need?to?initiate?each?subsequent?payment?themselves?or?are?they?processed?automatically?without?any?customer?involvement?
3.Will this service be enabled within your website, mobile app integration or both?
4.Are you integrating through another payment service provider, such as Worldpay or Ingenico?

Once we confirm receipt of the above questions, your application may take 7 to 10 days to be assessed. Please be aware that we may require more information once your application is being processed.

PayPal MTS has limited access to check only Website Technical & API Integration queries. This issue is related to reference transactions. This issue is not handled by MTS.

I hope this helps. Thank you for being a valued PayPal customer. This department cannot take further action, since this is not a Website Technical or API Integration issue, this ticket will be closed. Please do not open a new MTS ticket for this issue.

Hi there, thank you for reaching out to Paid Memberships Pro.

I’ve tried 3 times now to make a purchase with Paypal Express with 3 different cards. What am i doing wrong, is there a setting somewhere that i need to switch on?

The best would be to reach out to PayPal Express with the merchant and buyer information that you test with to see what the limitation could be.

There’s a chance that the ‘buyers’ card doesn’t allow for this kind of content, or there’s a restriction based on the country – this is all handled by the gateway and not something PMPro has control over.

The type of content your site serves will limit you to fewer gateways though.

CCBill typically handles adult content sites – the Add On can be found here (https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/add-ons/ccbill/) but is still in Beta.

I contacted Paypal about the payment issues and their response is below. I’m just concerned because I didn’t see or read anything on the PMP website regarding this extra step needed for Paypal to work. ” Before I go along with what they’re requiring, (basically i’d be applying for a high-risk merchant account of sorts, as my site is a dating site)

Our documentation covers the most common PayPal setup for users, I’m sorry if this step hasn’t been documented but it isn’t something that I’ve seen come up before.

If the gateway requires that additional verification is required I would recommend continuing this process with them.

Jarryd, thanks for your response. I just had a thought, could the issue be because I have a 7 day trial set up before payment is taken? I just spoke with Capital One and she said she’s seeing $0 on her end and it’s pending. But on the Paypal side it’s showing the $14.99.

I am the buyer, located in the U.S. and I used both a Capital One Mastercard and bank debit Visa card.

CCBill has a rating of 1.4 on Pissed Consumer, a 1.8 on Trust Pilot and 2.6 on Complaints Board. Why is Paid Memberships Pro associated with CCBill and offering it to their users?

Paypal suggested that I use their Subscription service, “To accept recurring payments, I would like to recommend the integration of our latest product – the subscription service. This advanced solution will enable you to bill your customers a fixed amount at regular intervals.” Jarryd, will I be able to use their subscription service with PMPro?

    Thanks again in advance,

    Darlene

Jarryd, my apologies for multiple responses. As i read through the other topics i am getting more ideas. Even though Paypal Express is included free in the PMPro core plugin, do i need a PMPro license to use Paypal Express as a primary gateway? I don’t have a license, i am using the free version. Could that be the issue why I cannot complete the purchase?

Of the 6 credit card processors included free in the core plugin, which can be used without having to purchase a PMPro license?

This is likely causing a conflict – please try turn off the trial and let me know if the issue persists.

If it doesn’t, we can recommend an alternative way to implement a delay in charging the customer which acts similarly to the trial.

Our current integration makes use of the NVP/SOAP PayPal API – you wouldn’t be able to use PayPal Subscriptions however this should not cause any issues.

Our plugin is entirely free and we do not limit the functionality of the plugin when you don’t have an active license key (this offers you automatic updates to commerical Add Ons and support). You can use all gateways that PMPro ships with – only one gateway can be used at a time. You would by default be using PayPal Express as the default/primary gateway.

In lieu of having a 7-day billing delay, i created a Free subscription that expires in 7 days. I turned off the trial while awaiting your response and I got the same results.

Can you please clarify, “you wouldn’t be able to use PayPal Subscriptions however this should not cause any issues.” Are you referring to what i’m asking here:

Is it at all possible for me to create a new subscriptions page that will link to a different payment processor such as Corepay and have it tie back into PMPro website so the new user has access to the membership and BuddyPress features in the same manner as if the subscription was bought through the native PMPro subscription page? The new subscription page would also need to be linked to the Sign-up links on the homepage (sign up button & create an account form). I’ve already duplicated the membership-levels page but before I go any further I’ll need to know if this is even possible. I will contract someone on Fiverr to do it for me if it becomes too difficult.

    Jarryd, thanks for your response.

Hi Jarryd, I think i’m all set now… I just got approved for the Authorize.net gateway. Initially they disapproved me, last week, but i went through and reapplied changing some info on the application.

But also, last night the tech rep at Paypal did a test purchase through the Paypal Express gateway and the purchase went through for him. He said Paypal Express is working properly and users should be able to sign up.

Thanks again, Jarryd. Feel free to mark this as resolved.

Jarryd, I will add that when Paypal made and cancelled the test order, I didn’t receive the admin emails. NONE of the test emails came through either.

Both of the check mark options in the Email Settings are unchecked. All of the admin email templates are enabled. My SMTP setting are working, as I am receiving other emails to my WP admin email.

Any ideas what might be the problem here?
