We are in a process of testing givewp paypal donations and it appears donor name is not captured in paypal, instead a paypal email address shows up under name.

Why? And what can we do so donor name is properly captured. Billing is currently disabled for paypal donation form. If we enable it will somehow the donor name be captured too? What else can we do?

    Thank you.

    Hi @virap,

    Happy to clarify.

That happens when donors without a PayPal account or without logging into their PayPal account, pay with a credit card. If they use their PayPal balance it does not happen.

Searching around I found a similar question expressed by a PayPal user but it has no answer: https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/Merchant-Products-and-Services/what-are-email-addresses-at-dcc2-paypal-com-in-my-payments-list/td-p/2301733

I would forward the question to the PayPal support team who are best placed to clarify your concerns. My guess is that PayPal has to wait for some sort of confirmation from the credit card processor.

The explanation might be the case, yet this makes the givewp very useless when using paypal donations as a gateway. What can be done so donor name is properly captured in paypal?

    Hi @virap,

It’s not a GiveWP issue. All the donor information (Name and email) is sent to Paypal. It’s up to Paypal how it stores or processes that information.

Still not good. You got to find ways to work with PayPal to ensure this is resolved rather than simply repeating it is not us, it is them. Because otherwise currently givewp PayPal integration is simply useless as it lacks critical data such donor name.

For those dealing with the same issue, here is what we did to solve the issue. It has nothing to do with the user being logged into paypal or not having paypal account as givewp suggested here.

Simply go to givewp settings > Payment Gateways > PayPal

Under Paypal donations make sure “Collect Billing Details” is Enabled.

Do this and donor names will appear in paypal.

Thank you so much for following up on your solution @virap. This 100% solved the issue for me as well. I’m shocked GiveWP support wasn’t able to provide this simple solution and instead chose to give you the run-around. Thank you again!
