    Hi Payment Plugins Team,

Thank you for an awesome PayPal plugin. We have been using it for several months, and it’s been working great. However, since updating to version 1.0.53, subscription renewals by PayPal-controlled subscription have not been processing correctly. PayPal charges the customer, but no renewal order in Woo is created. The subscription remains active, and the PayPal charge is noted in the subscription notes.

We keep a spreadsheet of plugin updates we make, so we know exactly when we updated to 1.0.53. Updating to 1.0.53 and the issue starting could be a coincidence, but the issue started for the next PayPal-controlled subscription renewal after updating. The same subscriptions have renewed dozens of times before 1.0.53.

If you need more information from me, don’t hesitate to ask.

    Best regards,
    Cooper Walter

    Hi @cooperhsp

Our PayPal plugin has never supported PayPal managed subscriptions. Anything subscription related originates from the WooCommerce Subscriptions plugin.

Did you have your old PayPal plugin enabled but no payment methods active but recently disabled it? If so that could explain that behavior.

    Hi @mrclayton,

I was told previously that your plugin did support PayPal managed subscriptions. That’s a good guess about having an old PayPal plugin enabled, but we do not have any other PayPal plugin installed, and we didn’t when the issue started. Would you recommend enabling “PayPal Standard” from the WooCommerce “Payment” settings page?

    Hi @cooperhsp

I was told previously that your plugin did support PayPal managed subscriptions.

Looking back at previous support requests, here is one of my replies.

Our PayPal plugin is designed to process subscription payments that use reference transactions. Specifically, our plugin can automatically process renewal payments for subscriptions created via the WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin. However, we don’t have specific logic in place to handle a subscription payment that’s managed by PayPal

and we didn’t when the issue started.

No what I mean is did you keep your old PayPal plugin enabled but just have its payment method disabled (so it doesn’t appear for customers) so it could process these PayPal managed subscriptions?

    Kind Regards

    Hi @myclayton,

Ah, I see what you mean. No, we did not keep our old PayPal plugin enabled. We have been using only your plugin for a while (at least a year, I believe). These PayPal managed subscriptions have been renewing without issue for at least several months. If your plugin isn’t handling these PayPal managed subscriptions, then do you think our issue is due to an update to WooCommerce Subscriptions?

    Hi @cooperhsp

then do you think our issue is due to an update to WooCommerce Subscriptions?

Yes, that is very possible. There is a metakey I believe that indicates if a subscription is managed externally or by WooCommerce Subscriptions. It’s possible something changed with that logic.

I’ll have to circle back regarding the exact logic that Woo Subscriptions uses for externally managed subscriptions. If you can use the support widget within the plugin and share the version number of Woo Subscriptions you’re using that would be helpful.

    Kind Regards
