PayPal checkout not working sometimes but marks as paid?

Since updating to the latest version and with WP 4.9.9 we are experiencing some odd behaviour.
When selecting PayPal it does no longer go to PayPal but puts up a white overlay and then reloads saying it has been paid and sending the payment received email and the confirmation email for the order. However no PayPal payment has been sent or received.
I have Debug log on for WooCommerce PayPal but nothing is recorded.
Any pointers appreciated.

I checked the site and was able to proceed to PayPal with no issues at this time. I’m assuming the issue has been resolved and am closing this thread at this time. If you have any further questions, please start a new thread.
I had to roll the website back to the 5th December when it was last confirmed working. We are meant to be updating the theme 1st quarter of 2019 so we might not invest the time to figure out why it is broken with the latest version of the plugin. I’ll update in a week when we have returned from the festive break.
