When someone checks out using PayPal, the page tells them that:
First Name is a required field.
Last Name is a required field.
    Address is a required field.
Town / City is a required field.
    State is a required field.
    Zip is a required field.
Email Address is a required field.
    Phone is a required field.

I’ve enabled guest checkout, set-up PayPal as the default gateway, not forced a secure checkout, etc.

Why is it forcing the user to enter account information when I don;t require it?

  • Same here. “Enable guest checkout” just means the customer does not have to create an account, but the default behaviour is to still to find out who to send to bill to – a general requirement.

Check out this plugin which includes the facility to make checkout fields optional:

Lorro, T\thanks, that worked. I just wonder why I had to add that plugin to get this behavior. Seems like it should have been available out of the box. Thanks again.

I believe the reason is that WooCommerce is designed mainly for selling physical products, where you need to ship it to your customers. This is why it requires those information. That’s why you need to install an extension plugin to have the option to change it.

I think of this as the beauty of WordPress. It makes it easy for the community to extend already built plugins and include new functions or change it.

I agree, I was just trying to keep speed in mind and didn’t want to add yet another plugin. Was hoping there was a configuration setting I was missing. Thanks.
