    Hi,

At present the API for PayPal does not allow tax breakdown at checkout. This is only available through custom buttons.

This is causing me a few hassles as a VAT registered U.K. Business.

I am just wondering if there is anything that can be done to work around this or if the Lifter LMS 3.0 PayPal add on allows more checkout customisation?

At present I have to deal with all VAT separately/manually and generate my own VAT receipts to each customer.

  • @stickymathscom,

At this moment we do not have any tax functionality built into LifterLMS and we do not currently have any plans to add any tax functionality.

We did not intend to build a full ecommerce platform and we’re learning more and more everyday that we need a full ecomm platform to support circumstances like your own.

If this is a tremedous pain for you I’d recommend switching to WooCommerce for the ecomm side of things, WooCommerce has tax settings that will (I think) satisfy your needs

I am sure we’ll be adding tax settings in the future but as it’s not on our roadmap currently I can’t give you a timeline there and WC has it today.

Sorry and please let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you.

    Take care,

    Hi Thomas,

As always thank you for the excellent, precise support.

I decided to have a go with Woo Commerce. I had a play around with SKU’s and the membership/courses pages and everything seems to work perfectly checkout wise. It will take me some additional time to get setup but worth it in the long run.

I now have four questions I hope you can answer:

    1. When LifterLMS 3.0 lands, I presume I will only need to purchase the Woo Commerce add on (not PayPal also) and allow that to be my ‘checkout’?

    2. Does Woo Commerce have any issues with products that are part of a membership but have a single unit price also?

    3. Do recurring payments still process correctly when using Woo Commerce integration?

    4. Do I still manage coupons through Lifter LMS or through Woo Commerce?

I guess those last two questions could be asked as, does everything Lifter LMS orders wise still stay intact underneath the Woo Commerce checkout?

    Thanks in advance,

I just want to say what a great product, team, model and approach you guys have it is really inspiring! I visit education institutions across the UK on a weekly basis and am spreading the word about Lifter LMS.

    Ignore question 1 and 2 now ??

I think I have since answered question 4 – Woo Commerce will manage coupons.

Question 3 is tricky…..I see at present you do not have the integration working for recurring payments. Woo Commerce has its own paid for subscription add on, I have seen in another thread 3.0 may work with this? I guess there is always the option for me to manually create the users in Lifter LMS and add them to the membership. I can then leave Woo Commerce Subscriptions to manage the payments.

    @stickymathscom

    Thanks for your questions.

We’re not just being greedy and charging for WC, we’re significantly bulking up the feature set and ensuring a seamless integration and a simplified interface.

    1. When LifterLMS 3.0 lands, I presume I will only need to purchase the Woo Commerce add on (not PayPal also) and allow that to be my ‘checkout’?

Yes. WC will take over checkout. Our gateways (Stripe and PayPal) are used when using native LLMS checkout. If you choose to use WC for checkout you’ll need our WC plugin and then grab you gateways from WC. Stripe and PayPal are both free with WC at the moment. (Ours would be too if Automattic bought us :-P)

    2. Does Woo Commerce have any issues with products that are part of a membership but have a single unit price also?

With our integration you can make a WC Product members only, which means the customer needs to have already purchased / enrolled in the membership before they can buy.

You can connect both LLMS courses and memberships to WC products.

    3. Do recurring payments still process correctly when using Woo Commerce integration?

In the free 2.x version of our WC integration we have issues with recurring payments. Read that as I never built the functionality to make it work.

In the 3.0 addon we integrate with one time payments and recurring payments via the immensely popular WooCommerce Subscriptions addon.

    4. Do I still manage coupons through Lifter LMS or through Woo Commerce?

You would manage coupons through WC. The checkout goes through WC so that’s where you’d want to make your coupons.

    Hope that helps!
