• I want to sell products on my blog, but my PayPal buttons will not work.

I have another, non-wordpress site, and the code (and buttons) work there. But when I try and create a Products page on WordPress, the buttons will not work. Does anyoen know if I have to modify the code or add to it?

  • Can you put the code into a pastebin so I can see it, as there are numerous types of PayPal button code.

    https://pastebin.com/

The WordPress visual editor strips out a lot of code for security reasons by default, such as iframe code, for example. There are various workarounds depending on the code you’re trying to use.

Also be careful about using any PayPal code or plugins alongside the Bad Behaviour plugin. PayPal made some IP changes at their end recently and it’s been hitting sites running Bad Behaviour.

Zoonini, I’m not sure how to use pastebin. I pasted my code, but how do I tell you where it is. I hope I haven’t just given out private information. I hate being a newbie.

    Thank you, Esmi.

Instead of using the form code, try using an encrypted link.

After you create the paypal button on Paypal,
you will be given two options for the code.
One for “Website” and the other for “Email”.

Use the link from the Email tab.

Also be careful about using any PayPal code or plugins alongside the Bad Behaviour plugin. PayPal made some IP changes at their end recently and it’s been hitting sites running Bad Behaviour.

If you’re using Bad Behavior, you’ll need to whitelist PayPal. Copy the code from the pastebin link below, save the file as whitelist.ini and drop it to your bad-behavior directory (wp-content\plugins\bad-behavior).

Thanks for posting those resources. I didn’t have them to hand.

Geeksfolder, thanks for that option. Please forgive my ignorance, but I am old. Once I have the email code from paypal, will I need to create my own “Buy Now” button and assign it to the email link I got from Paypal? So it looks and acts like a regular button?

We seniors must be so frustrating for you kids…

Darn! Geeksfolder, it still doesn’t work. I got a gif image of a Paypal button, inserted it into my Page and linked it to the encrypted email from Paypal. It works as long as I am in Preview mode here on WordPress, but when I leave that mode and just enter my site as someone from outside, it is still FUBAR. The button just goes to a blank page and hangs up. This is so frustrating.

MickeyRoush, I am sorry but I am too dumb to know what you are talking about here. Thank you for trying to help me.

Do you have the Bad Behavior plug-in installed? If not, you don’t need to take any of those steps MickeyRoush suggested – that’s only an issue if you’re running the Bad Behavior anti-spam plug-in.

Can you provide a link to a page on your site where the button isn’t working so folks can take a look?

Oh, thank you, Zoonini. I didn’t understand the Bad Behavior part. Now I get it and I do not have that plug in.

Sure. My web site is https://www.BillKasal.com and the problem is on the Products page.

The first button is the one I just made with the JPEG linked to the encrypted email, as suggested by geeksfolder. The other two (lower ones) are with the PayPal code embedded in my HTML code.

Again, they all work when I am in Preview mode.

Thank you so much for your time!

You know, there are a few Plugins that say they will put Paypal buttons in your post or pages or sidebars, but the only ones I can find are for Donate buttons or Shopping Cart. I am just wanting a Buy Now.

I also wonder if these still work as I’ve Googled and found tutorials on how to insert Buy Now buttons, but they appear to be years old and the procedures they espouse, no longer work.

Is this a deliberate procedure by WordPress to not allow PayPal?
