Payments via Debit & Credit Cards Fail

Lately I noticed a spike in failed orders. All of them trough the ‘Debit & Credit Cards’ as a separate payment gateway. All of them show “INSTRUMENT_DECLINED” which usually just means their bank rejected the transaction. But this time it seems like the problem is on my backend.
In the meantime I removed the option to have Card payments as a separate gateway and in the ‘Send checkout billing data to card fields’ settings to also ask for name and the postal code of the buyer.
I used to ignore those error but they have shown up more than normal, and from many different customers, so I’m sure it’s not a problem on their side but with the payment gateway. They are not being charged, but it’s causing a loss in revenue.
