The Pay in 3 button has disappeared over night (no plugin version update) and instead Sepa, Giropay and Sofort buttons have appeared. I cannot work out how to remove these additional buttons and re-add Pay in 3.

I believe that this may be an issue with PayPal’s systems. The Pay in 3 messaging has now disappeared. The buttons have been restored to: Pay Now, Pay Later. We have not amended our updated our systems.

    Hi @simplecv

PayPal determines the eligibility for each individual buyer and decides which payments buttons are loaded.
If you prefer not to provide APMs such as Sofort or giropay, these can be disabled with the Hide Funding Source(s) setting.

But it appears to be working as expected on your site. When visiting with a UK IP address, I am being presented the Pay Later button:

When visiting your site with a German IP address, PayPal will present other payment methods

The Pay Later offers are region-specific. So a UK merchant usually can only provide Pay Later services to UK buyers. For more details,?please check the Pay Later details?for the UK.

    I hope this helps!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

Thank you for your time Niklas. We were aware that the Pay in 3 option was only valid for UK customers. We can’t find any reason why the buttons would not load this morning during our testing but they do now. We have hidden the unnecessary funding sources as you suggested.

Final question: the Pay in 3 messaging has disappeared, but this feature is activated within settings for Cart and Checkout. Any idea how to resolve this?

Edit: I updated the site from Woocommerce 7.4.1 to 7.5.1 this morning in an attempt to solve the missing buttons, so this maybe the cause of the issue with the Pay in 3 messaging?

Edit 2: 7.4.1 tested on staging and is not the cause.

    Hey @simplecv,

    Thanks for the feedback.

One major factor in determining the APM eligibility (incl. Pay Later messaging) is the IP address. So please make sure that e.g. you are not connected to a VPN.

The messages normally would be displayed above the PayPal button on the Checkout page:

On the Cart page, the area is also created but empty:

From the plugin perspective, you can enable certain features (like Pay Later buttons & messaging) when certain conditions are met. E.g. the WooCommerce store location matches a Pay Later supported country. Then the plugin allows you to enable these features.
But whether PayPal actually displays these features for you/your customers is not known to the plugin.

The first best thing you could test would be to connect a UK sandbox merchant account. If the messaging is displayed with the sandbox merchant, then it works correctly from the plugin point of view and the behavior would be related to your live PayPal account.
For any PayPal account-related issues, the PayPal Merchant Support is normally in a better position to help out.

But if the problem persists with a Sandbox account connected, then please let us know. Thanks!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

I am not getting this error when testing the live site:

PAYEE_ACCOUNT_INVALID Payee account specified is invalid. Please check the payee.email_address or payee.merchant_id specified and try again. Ensure that either payee.merchant_id or payee.email_address is specified.

Edit: I have fixed this by disconnecting the PayPal account, then reconnecting it via the plugin.

I still can’t get Pay in 3 messaging to work though. VPN disabled.

The Pay in 3 messaging is now working. We have not made any changes to our system. We find this payment gateway exceptionally frustrating to use, with frequent issues with new updates and instability issues. Our Stripe gateway has performed flawlessly for years, with literally no input beyond updating to the latest release. The support here is good, but I cannot recommend the gateway.

Thank you for your feedback, and I apologize for the frustrating experiences you’ve had with the Pay Later messaging and the payment gateway in general. We understand that stability and reliability are essential for a seamless experience, and we appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the plugin.

It’s important to note that some of these issues stem from how PayPal operates, rather than being specific to our plugin. With that in mind, our development team is actively working on providing users with greater control over messaging, enhanced error messages, and better handling of situations like the PAYEE_ACCOUNT_INVALID error, which can occur when credentials are partially invalid.

We’re glad to hear that you find our support helpful, and we’re committed to enhancing the performance of the gateway to better meet your expectations. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us make these improvements, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you encounter any further issues or have any suggestions.

Once again, thank you for your understanding and for using our plugin. We’re dedicated to making it a better experience for you and all our users.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas
